This is Bubbles. She’s our 8 year old shihtzu who doesn’t seem to be able to catch a break.

Chronic dry eye… Yep, she’s got it.

Chronic ear infections… Yep, she’s got those too and they make her always smell like a corn chip.

Weird allergies that a vet has yet to conquer… Those as well.

We have been wanting to switch Bubbles’ food to a holistic dog food for a while out of hope it could improve some of her health issues. Well, we found a new one to try and I’m really excited to share it with you.

Actually, before I go any further, I want to give you a little background.

Eight years ago my husband and I were kid-free and I had a love for cute, fluffy dogs. I wanted one and I wanted one bad. I had grown up with small, fluffy dogs so it only made sense that this be the type of dog I want.

So, for my 29th birthday my parents bought me my dream dog! We went to a breeder, I picked her out myself, and we named her Bubbles. Due to her random health issues, she immediately became a high maintenance dog. We still adored her and our world revolved around her (remember, we didn’t have kids yet. You know how kid-free dog owners can be about their dogs)!

Then one day my husband and I were watching the news and saw a house we recognized — oh my gosh! It was the house of the breeder we got Bubbles from! The breeder was an elderly woman who had to be put in to a nursing home. Apparently, her kids came to clean out her house and realized she was running a puppy mill! Bubbles’ mommy had been over-bred, which we’re assuming is the connection to her health issues.

So, now you know the 411 on Bubbles, let’s chat about the healthy dog food we’ve been trying.

Have you heard of Only Natural Pet?

Only Natural Pet is dedicated to creating natural food that is healthy for your pets; whether it be your dog or kitty cat. What’s really exciting is that they have “used the latest research in holistic nutrition to create this grain-free, protein rich recipe of high quality meats, low-glycemic carbohydrates, healthy oils, real vegetables and fruits.”

I really love it — especially the grain-free part since there seems to be a link between Bubbles’ ear infections and grains. I’m also loving how they’re using holistic nutrition to create their products. We’re fans of holistic nutrition in our human life, so why not apply it to Bubbles?

What about the ingredients?

The ingredients are listed below and look pretty darn good. Nothing questionable in this! Seriously, I could give this food to my kids (don’t worry, I won’t ….I’m just sayin’).

We’ve been giving Bubbles the Canine PowerFood Dry Dog food (poultry version) and it is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and yes, a probiotic and enzyme blend! In this particular food, they also add a PowerBoost blend, which is a proprietary blend of superfood ingredients added to every single kibble. This gives Bubbles an “extra boost of nutritional benefits to support vibrant health and a long, happy life.”

Our little “lemon” dog will take all the help she can get and this food is literally spoiling her. We’ve never given her this level of quality dog food.

Transitioning Bubbles to Only Natural Pet

As far as transitioning Bubbles to Only Natural Pet, we’ve followed the instructions as shown below. She has eaten wet dog food her entire life, so this was a dramatic change for her.

I’ll admit, I was a bit nervous that she would not go for the food… at all. To my surprise, she gobbled it up!

She has been eating this food for about a month now, and we do still mix a little bit of her wet dog food in because she hasn’t completely adjusted to 100% dry dog food, but I’m very happy with the progress she has made. She really does seem to like it. I’m confident that in the coming weeks she will be moved over entirely to Only Natural Pet Canine PowerFood Dry Dog Food.

I am eager to see how changing Bubbles diet to this dog food will impact her health. After all, it all starts with food and this company gets it!
