I love holidays. Big or small, I love the excuse for a little celebration.
One of my favorite “little” holidays is Cinco de Mayo.
I bust out the salsa canned last summer, whip up some guacamole, and have a little mid-week fiesta.
Cinco de Mayo, of course, cannot pass without the thought of a cocktail.
Margaritas seem like the obvious choice, but I love making my own simple syrups. I blame it on the recent craft cocktail craze, but infusing simple syrups with herbs or fruit is fun and really elevates the flavor of a plain cocktail.
In early spring rhubarb is everywhere and it’s tart taste make a great simple syrup for another classic Mexican cocktail, a Mojito.
