Before I became a mother, I had always assumed I would feed my babies solely with formula. I hadn’t been around babies a lot – and the ones I was around were bottle-fed.
When I was pregnant with my first child, I became a research fanatic – I learned about all the amazing health benefits that breastfeeding has for babies and mothers. It didn’t hurt that it saves a lot of money, too! I was sold.
I didn’t know it at the time, but breastfeeding doesn’t always come naturally for mom or baby. I certainly faced a few struggles, especially at the beginning.
Now, I know that it’s important to listen to advice, but above all do what works for you and your baby. With that in mind: in honor of World Breastfeeding Month, I want to share some of the most important lessons I’ve learned breastfeeding my 3 children. Looking back, I’m so grateful I’ve been able to breastfeed each of my kids, even though it didn’t always go “perfectly.”
